WA PLASTIC FREE
The brief
The WA Plastic Free project was started in 2018 and the logo initially designed depicted a footprint. Since then the focus of the Plastic Free Places project had developed and required a rebrand to represent the whole state of WA encompassing the forest, the ocean/coast, and the desert.

Objective

Incorporate the key coral colour for visual consistency across all projects
The approach
Firstly, we looked at images of the WA coastline, desert, forest to get an idea of the colours and shapes that are indicative to the environment. These visuals were turned into a mood board to present to the client to show the visual design direction we were thinking of taking.
Design process
A number of design concepts were explored to represent the desert/forest/ocean requirements in a figurative and literal form.
Typeface
As a carry over from the initial logo design a hand drawn brush typeface was chosen to accent the strong and heavy heading font.
Colour palette
The primary colour palette coral, gold, sky and forest came from the colouring of the landscape. The coral is used to represent the desert, gold is for the sand, sky for the ocean and forest for the wilderness.
Deliverables
The team developed brand guidelines to show how the brand will be executed across the following materials:
- marketing
- website
- social media
- printed material
- signage
The results
The three elements were incorporated into a simplified landscape snapshot showing water flowing down from the mountains into the river to the ocean with the desert on one side and forest the other side.
